Meta announced changes!
Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Whatsapp, and other platforms, announced changes to the way people see political content. According to an article published by NPR on March 26, 2024, Meta has been working on changes over the past year, claiming users want to see less political content. However, Meta has yet to define what constitutes "political content."
What we DO know is that any content by an account or person a user currently follows will not be hidden.
Instagram has already implemented a change that automatically hides political content. Users can opt in or out of political content by going to their account settings and selecting "content preferences." Under this heading, users will find "political content" and can select if they want content from people they don't currently follow to be limited if the content is considered political.
Meta also announced there will be options for Facebook users to opt in or out of political content, too, but have not given details yet. MEKE Marketing will continue to monitor the changes announced by Meta and provide updates on our website.
